Meet Crew Members John and Georganne

Georganne and I have known each other for more years than I care to mention. Our lives have run so parallel during the years that her daughter thinks that I have been stalking Georganne most of my life. Like many “old friends” who have not seen each other in years, our friendship picked up from where it left off which means it was full of laughter and fun times. When we knew that we would be within driving distance of their home, we invited John and Georganne to join us aboard the Lolligag for a weekend trip to Baltimore and Annapolis.

As soon as John and Georganne arrived on Saturday we headed out and on our way to Baltimore. The seas were rather calm and the day was warm (HOT) making the short trip to Baltimore’s Inner Harbor delightful. Along the way we passed the colorful marker indicating the spot where Francis Scott Key was moored unable to return to Baltimore harbor. While watching the bombarding of the American forces at Fort McHenry during the Battle of Baltimore (War of 1812) on the night of September 13–September 14, 1814, Key was inspired to write a poem that eventually became The Star Spangled Banner.

Baltimore was certainly not at all what I was expecting. The Inner Harbor is inviting, very charming and full of people, places and things to do. Since John and Georganne had been here before, we followed their lead as we explored the various neighborhoods within walking distance.

As evening approached, Captain Mark returned us safely to the Maryland Yacht Club for dinner which was again full of laughter and good times. Getting to know John was so easy and so much fun that you would have thought that the four of us had been neighbors for the past forty plus years. It is truly amazing how much in common we found that we shared - including our politics!

Sunday morning we were up early and on our way to Annapolis, this time by automobile. Again we allowed John and Georganne to show us the way in historic Annapolis and at the US Naval Academy. The guys were ever patient as Georganne and I visited each and every quaint little shop that we could find. Too quickly the weekend was over and it was time to bid farewell to the Lolligag’s newest crew members. It is our hope that they will join us again and often during our upcoming Lolligag Adventures.
