A Whirlwind in the Midwest

Of course, Andy’s graduation was the reason we returned the Midwest; however we could not be there without stopping to see several of our friends. We made a whirlwind trip around the state of Indiana to see and do as much as we possibly could within two weeks.

As you know, knitting is very important to me and I certainly did not want to be without yarn for the upcoming leg of our adventures. So I rounded up friends and we headed out to knit shops in Indiana. Terry, Dianna and I made a road trip which started at Sheep Street Fibers in Morgantown.
Between purchases at Sheep Street owners Nancy and her husband were kind enough to show us the Shetland Sheep and one of the Peranise guard dogs. After lunch we then headed into Indy to Mass Ave Knit Shop. At Mass Ave we found owner Susan to be her most gracious and bubbly self as she welcomed us warmly and then assisted Terry and Dianna in their yarn choices and patterns.

Later in the week, I was able to see the new digs of Sheep’s Clothing Knitting Supply in Valparaiso. Unfortunately, my camera was not working as well as it should have been and the pictures of Debbie, Kate and Kathie did not do them justice. However, Captain Mark worked the camera better than I did and he was able to capture this shot of proprietor Paula and me.

After taking this shot, Captain Mark used a forklift to load my yarn purchases into our teeny tiny rental car…

Next it was on to Chris and Beth’s house to help landscape the yard and replace the front porch. As you can see, the house is coming along very nicely.

No trip the Midwest would be complete without a visit to the home of Scooter and Lucy. Their parents, Kathy and Lee, have the most comfortable, classy and welcoming home in which we were able to spend several delightful days relaxing, laughing and having a wonderful time.

If you have not already done so, please check out the Scooter’s Friends website to view the doggie line of couture clothing designed by Kathy. Kathy took me to the cutting and manufacturing plant to show me the fall 2008 fabrics and designs. What started as a hobby and a means to keep Scooter warm during Chicago winters has developed into a Chicago based company with international sales. As we all know, every dog deserves only the very best couture clothing as provided by Scooter’s Friends.

A lunch date with Nina was long overdue and was filled with more laughter, hugs and show and tell. As an artist, Nina is constantly seeking new outlets for her talents. In addition to her fiber artistry, she is now designing and creating silver jewelry, buttons and pottery. Her works are unique and very creative.

Andy was not the only Wunder Kid we spent time with…we attended Madeline’s swim meet

And William’s baseball game

As a housewarming gift, we purchased a swing for Mike and Sam. The question is: How many IU graduates does it take to assemble it? (Looks like three to me…)

Heading south, we visited Lolligag crew members Lora and Jerry. They hosted a wonderful steak dinner cook out for us. We were so glad that Jerry’s daughter Erin and family were able to join us. Time spent with Jerry and Lora is always full of reminiscing, good cooking and plenty of laughter and smiles.

Continuing South, I met several of the AHS Margarita Chicks in Indy for lunch while Mark hung out at the pool with Lolligag crew member Will. Sandy, Brenda, Beret, Terry and I had a wonderful lunch with many laughs in between not so many maragaitas...

We actually spent two nights at home and then it was on the road again to return to Savannah. It just so happened at along the way to Savannah we were able to find Goody’s home for a quick tour of her lovely home and pool before catching a dinner out. Saying goodbye to Goody, we made our way safely back to Isle of Hope. We needed to return to the boat for some serious R&R.
