After getting settled in at Olverson’s Captain Mark was able to make contact with a diver who was willing to come to check out the bottom of our boat. It seems that he was already heading to the marina to dive for a couple of other boats and he would be happy to check out the Lolligag.
Since I really want to learn to scuba dive, it was very interesting to watch him gear up and perform all of his safety checks before entering the water. Since the water in the Chesapeake is full of jellyfish and God only knows what else, he always wears full covering when entering these waters.
He was in the water for only a minute before he was able to confirm that the raw water intake was clogged at the entry point. He then proceeded to spend a great deal longer to clean out the intake as it was full of compacted and icky gunky seaweed stuff. While under the boat, he checked the prop and keel and reassured us that all is fine under the water line. Captain Mark knew that all was okay when he started the generator and it stayed running for more then ten minutes.
